Madleine is a 37-year-old Lebanese married woman. She lives with her husband and five children who are still attending school. She collaborates with her husband, who has been working in a local school since 1988 in order to enhance their way of living. As for her, she has owned a bookstore for the past ten years. In parallel, she teaches in one of the local schools and has seven years of experience. Today, she’s looking to borrow $2100 from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l to purchase a photocopy machine, stationary, and books for her bookstore. This will definitely develop her business and help her earn superior income. In the future, she plans to focus on one job and better support her family.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
