Francisca is a resident of Kitale and has been in the farming business for four years, producing eggs and milk for the local market. She is married and has four children between the ages of 4 and 13, all of whom are in school.
Francisca has requested a loan of 41,200 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to help her buy poultry birds at 10,000 KES and a dairy cow at 31,200 KES. She says she will be able to get more milk for family consumption as well as to sell in order to meet other family needs. She wants to manage her farming business well so that she can install a cereals grinding machine in the local market.
She laments the remaining challenge of food and water shortages during dry seasons.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
