Titus 25 years old and is a farmer and livestock trader in his home area of Kitale. He runs his farm with the help of one employee and produces maize, beans, and milk for the local market. Titus is worried about high costs of input and animal diseases.
Titus is requesting a 62,400 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. He says this will boost his milk production so that he can make direct deliveries to processors rather than to middlemen who are quite exploitative and pay low prices. Titus adds that his improved income will provide financial security to his young family.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
