Dancan is a resident and a farmer of Kitale, Western Kenya where he lives with his wife. He has has been practicing farming for the last three years and sells his products of maize and beans to the local market .He also runs a carpentry workshop for additional income.
Dancan has requested for a loan from Kiva partner Juhudi Kilimo in order to help him buy and insure a dairy cow at 31,200 KES and to buy poultry at 10,000 KES. He says the dairy cow will provide milk for family consumption as well as income to meet other basic needs besides food. He plans to expand the dairy business to five dairy cows in five years.
He faces the challenge of food shortages.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
