A loan of $1,200 helped to purchase a generator and a new sewing machine.

Bayan's story

Bayan is a 41-year-old Iraqi mother of two. In addition of being a wife and a mother she is also eager to work and help secure an additional income for her family.

In her modest home she has a small, warm working space of some 2 square-meters where she creates beautiful, colorful dresses for women. She would like to manage her own working time, however this is rather difficult as the electricity in the city is often interrupted, at times the black-out is for hours.

Bayan took a loan of 1200 USD from Relief International-Iraq in order to purchase a new sewing machine and a small generator to ensure a continuous source of power allowing her to manage her own time and work on making beautiful dresses.

Based on the political and social challenges of lending in Iraq, personally identifiable information about this borrower has been altered for their protection. RI-Iraq appreciates Kiva lenders' consideration of these challenges and encourages lenders to continue their support for Iraqi borrowers.
