Mary has been farming in the Kitale area for 30 years with her farm producing maize and beans for the local market. She carries out her farming with the help of one farmhand and also runs a cereals retail shop in the local market.
Mary has requested a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo in order to buy poultry birds and construct a poultry unit for her new venture. She says she wants to diversify her farming business due to the challenges of poor prices for milk and other dairy products occasioned by stiff competition in the industry.
Mary aspires to own over 2000 birds in her farm.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
