Penninah 60, is married with four children, two of whom attend school. She owns a house that has neither electricity nor piped water. Her greatest monthly expense is food for the family.
For the past two years, Penninah has operated a charcoal and firewood selling business, selling from home to her neighbors and passersby. She faces a major challenge of price fluctuation in the market. She dreams of establishing another business in the future.
With the Kshs 10,000 she wants to purchase sacks of charcoal for resale. She decided to join Yehu to access loans to boost her business.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
