The Los Girasoles del Algodonal group was formed many years ago. Juana is one of the long-standing members. She is 47 years old. Her six children were always her main impulse to continue working. This is why she shares her household work with her job.

She has a stall for selling fish and shellfish in a fish market. She has been working in this business for 20 years. Some of the products she sells are anchovy, squid, scad, mackerel, mahi-mahi, scallops, etc.

She will always be grateful to a friend who encouraged her to work and taught her everything about fish products. The seasons of greatest demand are the holidays because people eat these foods then. Her work is maintaining her home and being a big help to her husband, above all for their children's studies. They also have improved their home, which makes them more comfortable.

Later she wants to start another type of business in which she can work with her children. What she wants is a juice bar, but this will be in the future. For now, with her loan she is going to buy fish and shellfish wholesale and at a lower price. This way she will supply herself for the coming holidays.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
