Sophal is 52-year-old mother of seven children, five of whom are dependent and still in school. They help her with the farm during their spare time. She has been farming her rice field for 30 years, supplementing her income by raising pigs. Her husband works as a construction worker. With her current business, she earns about 5 U.S. dollars per day to feed her big family.
This is Sophal's first loan with VisionFund. She will use part of this loan to buy a plot of farming land to extend her farm and part of the loan to buy feed for her pigs. This loan will enable her to produce more rice and feed her pigs so they will become healthy and fat. She also hopes that she will be able to make a bigger income so she can feed her family better, especially her children, and also keep them in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
