Veronicah, 41, is the mother of five children who are already in school. The children are aged between 16 and 7 years. She lives with her family in Kitale, Western Kenya, where she has practiced farming for the last twenty years. Her farm currently produces milk, maize, and poultry for the local market.
Veronicah has requested a loan of 62,400 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. She says the loan will improve her farming income and enable her to boost her tailoring business, which she runs besides farming. She hopes to increase her farm size and buy more dairy cows as well.
However, she laments the high cost of feed and the poultry diseases which result in the death of chicks.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
