Patrick is a farmer in Kitale and is married with 2 children aged 9 and 5 years. He has been in farming for 5 years producing and selling milk, eggs and maize to the local market.
Patrick has requested a loan of 101,200 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow at 31,200 KES and buy poultry birds at 70,000 KES. He says the two purchases will boost his farming business. He says he hopes to have four dairy cows to earn him more income for his family's upkeep.
He laments about the high costs of feed, especially during dry seasons.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
