Prisca 31, is a mother of one child who attends school. She lives at a rental house that has neither electricity nor piped water. Her greatest monthly expenses are food, rent bills, and clothing.

For the past three years, she has operated a bananas selling business, selling at the market to her neighbours and passersby. She faces a challenge of stiff competition from other banana sellers in the area. Prisca dreams of expanding her business to earn more income in the future.

With the Kshs 50,000 she wants to construct her house, purchase construction materials, cement, sand, and pay for labor. She decided to join Yehu to access loans to boost her business.

About Yehu Microfinance Trust

This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
