Anna is a farmer based in the Nkubu area of Central Kenya. She is married and has four children, all adults save for the last child, who is still in school.
She has been in farming for 17 years and produces wheat, milk, potatoes, and maize among other cereals (grains). Her produce goes to the local market. She also operates a cereals retail business in the local market. Her cereals are sourced from her farm as well as other farmers.
Anna has requested a loan of 52,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow. She says the dairy cow will boost her milk production and income, which she will also use to improve her cereals retail business and pay for the education of her last born child.
Anna laments the high costs of farm inputs and poor prices for the products.
