Mom is a 50-year-old married mother with five children, four of whom are dependents working on her plantation. She is a farmer in a flat area of the Ponhea Krek district, where crop farming is common. She supplements her income by growing cassava. Mom has been in this business for 30 years. With her current business, she earns around 30 U.S. dollars per day and can save less than 5 U.S. dollars per day.
Having been with VisionFund since 2010, Mom has regular income and now is applying for her second loan with VisionFund. She wants to buy cassava seedlings for her plantation. With this loan, she hopes to increase her yield of cassava so as to earn more income to make a better living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
