A loan of $725 helped to buy avocado trees, organic fertilizers, and insecticides.

Ivan's story

Iván is 21 years old and single. He says that he finished preparatory school, but was not able to continue studying because he had to help his parents support his siblings. Iván is originally from a place that is rich in natural beauty and where the main business activity is selling poinsettias, which are also known as the “flower of Pascua”. Young Iván began investing in a Haas avocado orchard. He is requesting a loan to invest in his orchard and already has plans to buy more avocado trees and organic fertilizers to nourish the soil without harming the environment. In addition, he will buy insecticides to eliminate pests and diseases so that his trees will be more secure, thus allowing his orchard to produce an optimal quantity of avocados.

In addition to farming, Iván has a construction job during the week in the capital that allows him to help his parents and siblings with the household expenses. He hopes that his avocado orchard is profitable enough to allow him to quit taking other jobs because the work is exhausting and dangerous. Iván wants to return home and dedicate himself full-time to his avocado trees. His goal is to install a water intake system for his orchard because buying water can be very costly since there is not enough to irrigate all of his trees. He also dreams of increasing the number of avocados tress he has on hand because he has enough land.
