GF MAWOUDEKON Group is made up of five women who are friends and live in the same village. This is the fifth time that the members of the group are seeking financial support from Kiva's partner, ALIDé, in order to bolster their businesses.

The group's representative, named Henriette, is the one raising her hand in the photograph. She's 33 years old and lives in Benin. She never attended school. She's a widow, and the mother of two children she has to support. Some children attend school.

Henriette lives alone with her children, and supports her family on her own. In order to provide for herself and her children, she's been growing chili pepper for eighteen years in her region. As a second business, Henriette sells manioc flour in a city in Benin. She buys the flour in her region.

Eager to meet customer demand, and in order to increase her revenue and income, Henriette, together with the other member of the group, is seeking her fifth loan from ALIDé. The previous four loans were repaid without problems.

Le groupe GF MAWOUDEKON est composé de cinq personnes qui sont des amies et vivent dans le même village. C'est la cinquième fois que ce groupe sollicite l'aide financier de ALIDé, afin d'élever le niveau de son activité. La représentante du groupe, du nom de Henriette est celle qui a la main levée sur la photo. Henriette est âgée de 33 ans et vit au Bénin. Henriette n’a pas fréquenté l’école. Henriette est une veuve et mère de deux enfants dont certains scolarisés et tous à sa charge. Henriette vit seule avec ses enfants et assure seule les diverses charges de la famille. Afin de subvenir à ses besoins et à ceux de ses enfants, Henriette mène comme activité depuis dix huit ans, la culture du piment dans sa région. De façon secondaire, Henriette vend de la farine de manioc dans une ville du Bénin. Henriette s’approvisionne dans sa région. Dans la quête de la satisfaction de sa clientèle et pour accroître son chiffre d’affaires et son revenu, Henriette sollicite ensemble avec les autres membres du groupe GF MAWOUDEKON, un cinquième crédit auprès de ALIDé. Les quatre premiers prêts ont été bien remboursés.

About Alidé

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients. This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
