A loan of $900 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Malu A Group's story

Grace is the facilitator of the Malu A group. Grace and her group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Grace and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012.

The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

Grace takes care of nine children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough to secure food for her family and to have additional maize profits to send her children to school. With income from her maize sales, Grace will save for the future and invest in livestock rearing as savings for future use.

In 2012, the members of Malu A group will each plant maize plots between ½ and 1 acre of land.

The photograph shows Grace with her group members and standing on the far left is the field officer.
