Thea, 39, is divorced and has four children, who are still with the family and work at the rice field, on the plantation, and work for others. She is a farmer in a rural area of Ponhea Krek district. She also plants cassava to raise additional income to feed her family. Sometimes, she works for others as well. She has been farming on her rice field and planting cassava for 15 years and three years respectively. Currently, she earns less than four U.S. dollars per day.
Thea is applying for her first loan with VisionFund. She wants to buy cassava trees for her plantation. She hopes that she will grow more cassava and earn more income to build some savings for her future needs.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
