Sokon is a 58-year-old mother, widowed, and has one child who is living with the family and works for others. She has been planting cassava to support her living for three years. She also works for others to raise additional income. Sokon currently can earn less than five US dollars per day to feed her family.
Sokon is requesting her first loan with VisionFund. She will use this loan to buy cassava trees for her plantation. She hopes that this loan will enable her to make more cassava and earn more income to feed her family better.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
