Mrs. Ben is a 31-year-od married woman with four children who lives in the Pouk district of Siem Reap province. She earns a living by selling fish thA. her husband catches along the Tonle Sap River. Her income depends mainly on the size of her husband's catch, and many of his nets are currently torn and broken. She is applying for this loan from HKL and Kiva to buy new fishing equipment for her husband. She will also use some of the money to repair her house, which has many leaks. This loan will allow her family to earn more income and live more comfortably.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
