Mrs. Ly, 34, is a married woman who lives with her husband and 3 single children in the Reussey Keo commune of Phnom Penh city. She is in the business of selling fresh fish and dry fish in Dépo market, from which she is able to earn a profit of $7.00 per day. Her husband also works in the same business but in mobile places. She is taking out this loan from Kiva's partner, HKL, to build a small room made of bricks with a metal gate. In the future, she wishes to expand and sustain her fish selling business.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
