In the city of Asunción, 15 women have joined together with the wish to get ahead through their work as a group to be able to get ahead. Most of these women are mothers and heads of household who day by day sacrifice for their families. This committee is in its third cycle and the sense of responsibility and the wish to make progress each one of them has stand out.

One of the members is Fernanda who recycles all sorts of products like bottles, cardboard, paper and other types of items. She comments that the work is very demanding because it’s difficult for her to have to go out daily in search of plastic. She tells us that thanks to her sacrifice she’s managed to raise her family and see that they lack nothing.

She requests the loan to buy recyclables like bottles, aluminum and others that she then resells producing a bit of profit. She thanks the Fundación for the great opportunity it gives her.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
