Grace is a farmer in Kitale, Western Kenya. She has been in farming for four years and produces eggs, milk, and vegetables for the local market where she also retail cereals.
Grace has requested a loan of 50,000 Kenya shillings (KES) from Kilimo to purchase poultry birds and boost her poultry farming business. She adds that she will use the income to care for her siblings and plan for her future. She is optimistic that she will be able to supply far markets with her eggs.
She points at fluctuation in market prices.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
