Kea is a 55-year-old mother of five children, four of whom are dependents while the fifth child works in Thailand. Two children are still in school. To make a living and feed her family in a rural area of Moung Russey District, Kea has been farming for more than 12 years on her rice field.

Kea has been with VisionFund since 2010. And now Kea and two members in her group are requesting a loan from VisionFund. She will use this loan to buy fertilizer for her rice field. With this loan, she hopes to increase her crop yield and earn more income to build some savings for her children and also to keep her children in school.

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
