The "La Esperanza" [Hope] committee has ten members, all very hard-working, industrious women. They have shown their union and solidarity with each other. All of them are from the city of Villa Ygatimi; they are neighbors and friends from that city.

One of them is Otilia, who earns a living raising and selling farm animals, such as pigs and chickens. Through her work and efforts, she has been able to support her family and take care of her home; because of this, she never gets tired of working to get ahead. She says that sales of her animals are good, so she would like to continue this work.

Because of this, she is asking for the help of the foundation and Kiva to purchase young pigs to raise and then sell. She thanks the foundation and also Kiva for this opportunity.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
