A loan of $4,750 helped a member to buy cosmetics and costume jewelry.

Nueva Integración (Portoviejo) Group's story

In the city of Portoviejo’s Los Rosales site the two male and 12 female members of the “Nueva Integración” communal bank meet every two weeks. They carry out a variety of activities like farming, animal husbandry and commerce in general. For them, this is their second cycle in the communal bank and they are very happy to belong to this lovely institution and are grateful for the help provided.

One of the group members is Sonia, 36. She’s in a common law relationship and has four children who are 19, 16, 14 and 10 years old. The three youngest go to elementary school and secondary school. Her husband’s a municipal employee.

To earn her own resources to help the household she works as a domestic employee in a house downtown but she’s also a merchant; she sell Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume and women’s accessories). She works every day selling in her free time and on her days off. She sells on credit and collects weekly. She’s been in business two years and does very well.

This loan is to buy perfume, creams, cosmetics and costume jewelry. This is the second cycle in the communal bank and she likes it because of the help they’ve given her along this time. Her dream is to give her children the best.
