Kamalladin is a 41-year-old man who has grown corn, fruits, and vegetables for the last 20 years. He is an IDP (internally displaced person) and lives in Bilasuvar IDP Settlement with his wife and two children. His wife actively helps him to run the business.
His monthly income from crop selling is 250 Azerbaijan New Manats (AZN). The demand in fresh fruits and vegetables is very high and Azerbaijani people use them in everyday life. Kamalladin applied for a loan of 1000 AZN to purchase seeds and fertilizer as well as working tools.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
