Merlie is from the village of Campo 4, Ramon Magsaysay, Zamboanga Del Sur. She is 55 years old, and married with two adult children. Merlie is operating a business raising crops, planting and harvesting rice for sale. Merlie has been in her business for over 11 years and earns 11,637 Philippines pesos (PHP) per month from it.
In 2009, Merlie joined GDMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and have the ability to engage in business activities. Merlie is requesting a loan of 50,000 PHP, which will be used to purchase additional seeds, seedlings, and young crops to raise. This will be the ninth loan taken out by Merlie from GDMPC. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve her family's general living conditions.

Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
