The communal bank "VICUÑITAS DE COOPERATIVA" will begin its second cycle in the Pro Mujer program, which is run by the German Busch social center. The group is comprised of eight members and is chaired by Mrs. Adela. The communal bank's members are involved in different businesses, among which are: fish sales, plastic sales, internet services, recycled plastic, commerce, a store, and breakfast food sales.

Mrs. Adela has been working with Pro Mujer for six months and she joined through an invitation from one of the promoters. She has a fish selling business that she has been in for several years. She learned the trade from her mother.

The loan she is requesting is to increase working capital to buy fish from the salespeople coming to the province. She later sells it at her stall. Through her work she is able to generate income to cover family expenses, since she is single and has two children.

When asked what she likes most about Pro Mujer, she says it's the Health area.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
