The "Kuña Joaihu" committee was first set up as a result of some promotional work that took place in the members' neighborhood. All the members of the committee are friends and neighbors from the same neighborhood. The aims that they set themselves were to work, to encourage a supportive spirit and to reach the top level of the program.

Elva is the group's president. Her business is selling drinks and this helps her a lot in supporting her family. She would like to increase her stock of drinks and for her business to be more profitable. For this reason, she is requesting a loan to buy wine, beer, whiskey and other types of drink. This will be a big help to her.

Elva tells us that she will put as much effort as she can into helping her committee do well and she will also carry out her work plan.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
