Hasab is a 58-year-old Lebanese widow who lives with her three children. After the loss of her husband, Hasab had to double her efforts as she became the main breadwinner of the family. Therefore, for the last 18 years she has been involved in the agricultural field, specializing in cultivating fruits. Today, she is requesting to borrow $1,000 from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l. to purchase seeds and fertilizers. She will also use the loan to pay for seasonal employees who help her with the hard slog since she is older now and cannot do the work single-handedly. Hasab estimates that the loan will help her increase her profits by 12 per cent.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
