Fredrick is a farmer in Kitale, Kenya. He is 34 years old and married with 3 children, aged 3 to 9 years. He has been producing maize and beans for the local market for five years. He also runs a second-hand clothing business.
For a new venture into poultry farming, Fredrick has requested a loan of 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo in order to purchase and insure poultry birds. He hopes the farming business will help boost his clothing business to wholesale levels. Fredrick mentions that poor infrastructure, coupled with limited finances, are his major challenges.
He says the income from the two businesses will help him with his children's education.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
