Mahammadali is a 36-year-old man who raises and sells fruits and vegetables. He has seven years of experience in this field. He usually sells his crops in the central bazaar and his monthly income is 200 AZN. He applied for a 1000 AZN loan to purchase seeds and fertilizers. He wishes to increase his income and improve the life conditions of his two children.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
