Akif is a 55-year-old man who is making keys. He has 20 years of experience. He is married and has four children. Akif has a small shop where he makes keys and locks, which are handmade and very popular among local people. His monthly income is about 200 AZN. His son works with him. He applied for 1,200 AZN in order to improve working conditions and purchase material to make keys. Akif has already demonstrated himself as a good client with a positive credit history.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
