Sokhea is from a rural area of Tbaung Khmum district, about 150 kilometers from Phnom Penh city. She is 27 years old, married and has three children. They are not in school yet. She is a farmer and she has been farming for 5 years. To better support her living, she also plants cassava.
Sokhea has been with VisionFund since 2008. The loan from VisionFund has made a positive impact for her family. Now she is requesting her fourth loan. She will use this loan to rent a plot of land for a cassava plantation. With this loan, she hopes to make more cassava (starchy tuberous root) which will enable her to earn more income to better feed her children and build some savings for future needs and her children's studies.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
