Saumu is a married woman with six children; four attend school, while two are still too young for school. She owns a house that has neither electricity nor piped water. Her greatest monthly expenses are food for the family.
For the past seven years, she has operated a coconut-selling business, selling at the market to her neighbours and passersby. She faces a major high cost of transportation and seasonality. She dreams of expanding her business in the future.
With this loan of 40,000 Kenya shillings (KES), she wants to purchase sacks of coconuts for resale. She decided to join Yehu to access loans to boost her business.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
