Mariposas Group
In this Group: Cristina, Ma Guadalupe, Josefina, Maria Esther, Elena, Ofelia , Rocio
The “Mariposas” (Butterflies) group is composed of six women who each has her own activity and this is why they’ve asked for the loan. For example, Josefina wants to buy cattle, María Esther, Elena, and María Guadalupe will buy sheep, Ofelia will buy sheep too but also chickens and Rocío will buy chickens and turkeys. They chose the group name themselves but they weren’t too sure about naming it thus because they wanted to call it “Voladoras” but opted for naming it “Mariposas” since they liked it because it’s an animal always headed forward.

Cristina, 48, has been married to Bruno for 32 years. He works as a bricklayer and together they have a son who is 11 years old and in sixth graD. in elementary school. His name is L. and he and his parents are very happy because he’s about to finish his elementary education.

Cristina raises animals and this time has requested the loan to buy two lambs and two piglets. She buys them when they are small and raises them to sell later. She sold a short while ago so she only has three sheep left at home. She comments that if she has any money left over she’ll buy pasturage and corn.
She’s a little concerned about the price of corn because it’s very expensive because the weather affected the corn crops.

She’s been in this business for 30 years and has had no problem in all this time because she’s always striven to care for them well and when she sees them sad she immediately takes them to the veterinarian to be checked over and so that they won’t worsen.

Cristina’s goal is that her son L. finishes his schooling, not only elementary school but that he succeed in becoming a great professional because they run out of money on many occasions and when she runs out is when she sells one or more of them to get out of their economic tough spot.

The members of the group are very grateful because they’ve been working with FRAC for a long time and they are grateful because its help has been very useful for them especially to get ahead and improve their quality of life.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
