Guillermo
Guillermo is 35 years old and lives with his family in the community of Santa Fe, located in Los Chiles in the province of Alajuela. This community is in a mountainous zone and is close the the northern border of the country. The main commercial activities are cattle ranching and farming, especially growing basic grains, sugar cane and oranges.

Nonetheless, he wants to be a successful micro-businessman and improve his family's quallity of life. This motivates him to get ahead with a lot of care and dedication.

Guillermo tiene 35 años de edad y vive con su familia en la comunidad de Santa Fe, que se encuentra en Los Chiles en la provincia de Alajuela. Esta comunidad se encuentra en una zona montañosa y está cerca de la frontera norte del país. Las actividades comerciales principales son la ganadería y la agricultura, especialmente el cultivo de granos básicos, caña de azúcar y naranjas.

Guillermo trabaja como secretario de la empresa desde hace unos meses y este es el medio por el cual genera ingresos para su familia. Ha crecido de manera significativa, los vecinos de la comunidad lo han apoyado mucho y ahora es capaz de salir adelante.

Guillermo espera obtener un microcrédito de 600,000.00 (seiscientos mil colones) para comprar una computadora y un escritorio. La adquisición de estos insumos tiene gran sacrificio y exige más trabajo. Sin embargo, su deseo de convertirse en un exitoso microempresario y mejorar la condición de vida de su familia lo motiva a seguir adelante con gran cuidado y dedicación.

As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides. By funding EDESA, Kiva lenders are allowing the organization to grow and reach more people than they otherwise would be able to reach.
