The “San Miguel” committee formed when several neighbors from the city of Santaní joined together. All the group members carry out independent activities but they also carry out joint activities to build up their companionship and teamwork. The members formed a very united group that’s quite able to carry out group activities.

Juana raises animals to sell later. She comments that her work is very demanding because caring for animals implies great effort for she must care for them in every sense but despite the struggle, she enjoys the work very much.

Through this work she’s able to earn income needed to support her family and cover household expenses. She is asking for the loan to buy nutritionally balanced feed for the animals she has so that she can have it in reserve.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
