Jacinta is age 41 and has been practicing mixed farming in the Nkubu area of Central Kenya for 25 years. Her farm currently produces maize, milk beans and eggs which she sells to the local markets. She operates a hotel in the local market too for additional income.
Jacinta has requested for a loan of 42,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to help her buy and insure a dairy cow for her dairy business. She says the income will help enable her improve the living standards of her family. She aspires to buy more land and construct a good residential house for her family.
Jacinta mentions the high cost of farm inputs as a major challenge to farmers.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
