The businesses run by the members of the communal association are varied. They include clothing sales, a tire shop, a neighborhood store, and selling blankets.

Pamela says that this is the first time she has worked with Pro Mujer, and that she joined the institution at the invitation of a family member. Currently, she has a business selling quilts and lamps, that she has been working on for five years.

The loan she is now taking out is to increase her capital, by buying quilts and lamps. She will buy these at markets, and sell them later at her sales location.

This activity allows her to generate resources to support her family, as she is single. When she is asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responds that she likes the skill development.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
