The “San Cayetano” women’s committee was formed with much effort from the members. They are in the second cycle working together and in a mutually supportive way in the program. Besides the individual work of each one of them, they also carry out joint activities to raise funds to have group capital; they also help each other reach their objective which is to work to help their families economically.

A moving story is Amada’s who sells vegetables. She comments that the previous loan made it possible for her to improve her business, her standard of living and her income quite a bit. She also comments that through this business the family’s economy improved quite a bit since she also supports her elderly father and her three children.

She is once again asking help from Fundación Paraguaya to buy vegetables to stock up and meet customer demand.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
