Mary, age 47, is a farmer in Muranga, Cental Kenya. She has been engaged in farming for 10 years, producing milk and selling it to the local market. She lives with her three children, ages nine, 11, and 14.
Mary has requested a loan of 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo in order to pay for a water tank. She tells us that scarcity of water has been the farm's main challenge, greatly reducing its output, and she is confident that her income will improve with the aquisition of the water tank. She anticipates improving the living standards of her family in this way.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
