Alexandre was born in Sofala Province in central Mozambique. He is married and the father of two children, all of whom are in school. He completed school through the 8th grade himself, but wasn't able to continue out of financial constraints. He lives in his own home with his family, which he supports.

He left his native region for the Boane District of Maputo in search of work. He has been a stone mason for more than 10 years and earns a monthly salary of nearly 5,000 MZN [Mozambique Meticais] that goes to his household expenses and also some savings in his personal bank account.

He has never taken out a loan from any other bank and became aware of Hluvuku [Kiva field partner] through some friends who are also Hluvuku clients. This will be his fourth loan with Hluvuku in the amount of 12,000 MZN [Mozambique Meticais] with which he plans to buy construction materials for his house (sheet metal, gravel, stone, bricks, metal, etc.). He plans to take out further loans from Hluvuku to finish his home and provide a more comfortable life for his family.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
