Stephen, 29, is married and has three children between 9 and 2 years. He has been in farming for the last four years, producing and selling milk, vegetables and eggs to the local market. He gets additional income from his low-cost rental houses. His challenge is the high costs incurred in fighting animal diseases.
Stephen has made a third loan request with Juhudi Kilimo amounting to 61,200 KES. He says the loan will help improve his farming income by enabling him to buy and insure a dairy cow at 31,200 KES and to buy more birds for his poultry business.
He will use the income to ensure that his family enjoys better living standards. He plans to buy more dairy cows for his farm. He is also keen on timely repayment.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
