Ali is a 41-year-old married man living with his wife and three siblings. In 1998, he started to work as a taxi driver, transporting customers to their desired location. After realizing that his revenue was barely sufficient to satisfy the family's needs, he decided to also open a vegetable shop in order to earn higher income. It’s very common in Lebanon to have multiple jobs so as to be able to handle the high costs of living.
Today, he is asking to borrow $1,500 from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l. to perform the needed maintenance on his taxi to make it more secure.
In the future, he plans to purchase a new car so that he can continue his business expansion.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
