Loan Update

Entrepreneur: Khun Savun
Location: Siemreap Province, Cambodia

Khun Savun, 40, lives with her husband and two young children in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the home of Angkor Wat. Khun runs a business buying and reselling paintings (not paints, as the profile suggests), and reported a combined income of $9 a day with her husband, who makes chairs and tables. Khun took out a loan to build a stand/storefront where she could more effectively sell her paintings.

When the loan officer Hing Yun visited her, Khun said that she used the money to buy groceries and build a stand to sell her paintings. She reported that she previously made about $15 a day, but now makes about $20. She has used the extra income to purchase more paintings and to buy better food and school supplies for her children.

Khun mentioned that the period from April until August is difficult for her business because fewer tourists visit Cambodia during the hot and humid season, when temperatures can climb over 100 degrees.

Khun plans to continue her business in the future and sell more paintings. She thanks the Kiva lenders who contributed to her loan.
