Samuel is aged 26 and married, with a 4-year-old child. He has been in farming for 3 years and currently employs one farmhand. Samuel's farm produces milk, maize and beans. He also operates a motorcycle transport business.
Samuel has made his first loan request from Juhudi Kilimo for a loan of 61,600 KES to purchase and insure a dairy cow. He says this loan will help him improve his business and the well-being of his family. He hopes to expand his farm by adding three more dairy cows.
Samuel notes that farmers face the challenges of common dairy animal and poultry diseases.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
