The MAHUTIN group is made up of three people who live in the same town in Benin. This is the fourth time that the group has requested financial aid from ALIDé, in order to raise the level of their business.

The group's representative, named Johanan, is the one with her hand raised in the photo. Johanan is 47 years old and lives in Benin. Johanan is a widow with five children under her care. All the children are in school. In order to support herself and her children, Johanan runs a business selling "l'Akassa" (a paste made from corn starch) and fried fish. Johanan has been running this business for eight years. Johanan gets her stock at one of the largest markets in Benin.

Aiming to satisfy her customers and increase her revenue and her income, Johanan, together with the other members of the MAHUTIN group, is requesting a fourth loan. The loans they received in the past have all been repaid.

Le groupe MAHUTIN est composé de trois personnes qui habitent dans la même agglomération au Bénin. C'est la quatrième fois que ce groupe sollicite l'aide financier de ALIDé, afin d'élever le niveau de son activité. La représentante du groupe, du nom de Johanan est celle qui a la main levée sur la photo.Johanan est âgée de 47 ans et vit au Bénin. Johanan est une veuve qui a cinq enfants à charge.Tous les enfants sont scolarisés. Pour subvenir à ses besoins et à ceux de ses enfants, Johanan mène comme activité la vente de "l'Akassa" (une pâte à base de l'amidon du maïs) et des poissons frits. Johanan mène cette activité depuis huit ans. Johanan s’approvisionne dans l'un des plus grands marchés du Bénin. Dans la quête de la satisfaction de sa clientèle et pour accroître son chiffre d’affaires et son revenu, Johanan sollicite ensemble avec les autres membres du groupe MAHUTIN, un quatrième crédit. Les crédits reçus antérieurement ont été bien remboursés.

About Alidé

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients. This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
