Teresita is 53 years old and married. She lives in Plaridel, Misamis Occidental, Philippines with her five children and husband.
Teresita owns and operates a specialized retail store at home to earn a living. She sells canned goods, noodles, shampoo, toothpaste, bath and laundry soap, school supplies, candles, etc. She has been running the store for over five years. Each month, Teresita is able to generate an approximate total income of PHP 5,000. She has requested a loan of PHP 40,000 from GDMPC to purchase additional goods to sell.
In 2008, Teresita joined GDMPC. She took out several loans from the cooperative and expects to take more in the future and maximize the use of it for business expansion and development.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
